ABOUT THE LEAGUE

Local voices making local choices. It’s at the heart of everything we do. Cities, towns and villages are more than places on a map.

When Florida’s city officials formed a group of municipal governments for the first time in 1922, they wanted to shape legislation, share the advantages of cooperative action, and exchange ideas and experiences. Growing from a small number of cities and towns, our membership now represents more than 400 cities, towns and villages in the Sunshine State.

The League provides members with tailored advocacy tools and training programs designed specifically for municipal officials. It also serves as administrator for the Florida Municipal Insurance Trust, offers a comprehensive package of innovative financial solutions to Florida’s local governments, and provides contractual support services to several statewide municipal and professional associations.

Message from Executive Director Jeannie Garner

Jeannie Garner HeadshotThe Florida League of Cities is proud to serve Florida’s municipal governments by helping ensure local voices are making local choices.

As the League’s new executive director, our organization’s strength and success are dependent upon the continued support and participation of our members.

Your FLC membership provides continued access to important training and webinars beneficial to city officials and staff, as well as ethics workshops necessary to meet state requirements.

We’ll also be launching training for newly elected officials in a convenient, online format.

FLC President Tony Ortiz explains why your membership is important and how it benefits your city.

During the next legislative session, we will once again provide a strong and influential presence at the state Capitol. By utilizing our new, three-pronged approach of lobbying our state and federal governments, building a grassroots network to increase citizen support, and delivering strategic communications to reinforce our message, we will continue our efforts to protect Home Rule.

While offering a comprehensive list of benefits for members, we will also explore new and innovative ideas to meet the needs of municipalities, now and in the future. We hope that you take advantage of these programs, resources and services.

We value your membership will gladly answer any questions about your dues, services or membership benefits. Please contact Sharon Berrian for any membership questions or Scott Hamilton for any questions regarding your dues. Both can be reached at 800.342.8112.
