The Duty to Vote and Voting Conflicts: Law and Best Practice (Online Learning)

  • Dates: 10 – 10 Dec, 2020
  • Time: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

“A public office is a public trust.” With these words, the Florida Constitution makes clear the role that elected officials are called to play. Their actions are supposed to protect and promote the public interest; this is the purpose for which they have been given their authority. However,  there are times when upholding the public trust can be in conflict with actual or perceived private interests.

Learn what the law views as a conflict and the implications of these conflicts for the conduct of councilmembers, commissioners, and mayors.
