Citizens' Academy Resources

Citizens’ academies are an excellent way to educate residents, build positive relationships and increase communication between city government officials and citizens, as well as inspire future municipal leaders.

Statistics show that 30 percent of Floridians are natives, while 70 percent moved here from somewhere else. This can greatly affect a Floridian’s understanding of city government in the Sunshine State.

That's why the League has created a document with real-world examples of Citizens' Academy programs from cities across Florida. The Guide to Creating a Citizens' Academy is available for viewing and downloading to the right.

Below is an example of a promo video from one of our member cities. The City of Sanford is embarking on their 11th Academy and created this video to provide a taste of what participation in a Citizen's Academy can be like.
